What's this I keep hearing about a Pawn Shop?

On May 4, 2026 The Perry Township Board of Zoning Appeals approved a conditional use vairance for the property owner of a parcel located on the corner of Navarre Rd SW and College Street to operate a Pawn Shop. Proposed site plans include pole barn construction with bars on the windows and doors, and an entrance from our residential neigborhood. This property fronts Navarre Rd, and is surrounded by single family residental homes. The subject property is currently zoned B1 which does allow light retail use suitable for the neighborhood - but there are no provisions in the B1 zoning language permitting a Pawn Shop.

The May 4th meeting notice was shared with the community in a manner inconsistent with ORC requirements, and the community pushed back. The Board of Zoning Appeals has agreed to re-hear this case at on a new date and time to give the community an opportunity to be present, ask questions, and use their voice.

This meeting date will be announced soon.
